Concrete Footing Calculator
By Vinod Kondeti · Updated
A continuous footing is a long, narrow rectangle under a wall. Enter the total run in feet and the width and depth in inches, which is how footing sizes are usually written (for example 16 × 8).
How do I measure for a footing pour?
- Add up every footing run around the perimeter, and count the corners only once.
- Your plans or local building department set the footing size. This tool only does the volume math.
- Footing trenches are often dug wider than planned, so measure the actual trench.
Footing concrete questions
How many yards are in a 100 ft footing, 16 in wide and 8 in deep?
100 × (16÷12) × (8÷12) = 88.9 ft³ = 3.29 yd³ before waste.
Should I use bags or ready-mix for footings?
Once the job reaches a few cubic yards, a ready-mix truck is usually more practical than mixing 45 bags per yard by hand. The bag count shows how much work that would be.
Bag yields: 0.30 / 0.45 / 0.60 ft³ for 40 / 60 / 80 lb standard concrete mix (manufacturer data sheets). The concrete guide has the formulas and worked examples.
